The first day's play of the third Test match in Headingley entirely belonged to England. First, they destroyed the Indian batting order, bowling them out for just 78 runs with James Anderson and Craig Overton picking three wickets apiece and then Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns joined forces to put together a 120-run unbeaten opening run partnership. The Indian bowlers didn't seem to make any impact whatsoever as the English openers took time to settle down and then later, changed gears to hit some stylish boundaries. Hameed (60*) and Burns (52*) both struck half-centuries as England have set their sights on a good first innings total, having already leading India by 42 runs.

India were earlier bowled out for just 78 runs after opting to bat first. Rohit Sharma was India's highest scorer with 19 runs. James Anderson and Craig Overton scalped three wickets apiece.

Burns have looked slightly more aggressive of the two as the Indian bowlers are unable to do enough to break the partnership. India has been hit with Ravindra Jadeja's injury on the field.

Coming to the dismissal, Curran bowled a length ball and Bumrah missed while trying to flick to the leg side. He took the review but it was to no avail.
