Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will ring the five-minute bell at Lord’s ahead of the start of play on day one of the second Test between England and India. Meanwhile, the opening session of the day one was wasted as it is raining at the venue. With heavens opening up the toss has apparently been delayed and thus early lunch was taken. The ringing of the five-minute bell at a Lord’s Test is a recent tradition introduced in 2007.
Sunil Gavaskar, The Nawab of Pataudi Jr, Dilip Vengsarkar, Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly are the other former India internationals who have previously performed the honours at a Lord’s Test. The hosts have included 20-year-old batsman Ollie Pope for this Test. Pope replaces David Malan who failed to impress in the first Test. Ben Stokes is unavailable for selection and thus it could be a toss-up between Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali. India, on the other hand, will be looking to bring back Cheteshwar Pujara. Most likely out-of-form opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will have to sit out. In that case, KL Rahul will be promoted as an opener.
