India vs England 2018 Highlights Day 1: Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane Lead the Batting Lineup for India

James Anderson finally gets his first wicket in the third test. Balls an outswinger and Pandya edges it and Buttler makes no mistake. Pandya OUT on 18 off 58 balls. So that calls for stumps and India makes a good total of 307 for the first time in the Pataudi Trophy 2018. 

Both Hardik Pandya and the test debutant Rishabh Pant have taken on the field after the departure of Kohli and Rahane. Pant opened his innings with a fantastic SIX! As of now, India look in total control as both Pant and Pandya are hitting FOURS occasionally. 

Now that's the man England wanted! Adil Rashid tosses it up and Virat flicks it away attempting a cover-drive. But gets the outside edge and hands it over to Ben Stokes at the first slip. Kohli kicking himself and gets OUT on 97. 

England's Stuart Broad finally gets the breakthrough with the wicket of India's vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane who departs on 81. Rahane edges it and Cook extends his left hand. A stunning catch indeed! Rahane OUT on 81 off 131 balls. Hardik Pandya the new man in for India! Virat Kohli still around!

Both Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli have gone into the attacking mode. The captain and vice-captain have displayed nerves of steel against the fiery bowling of Stuart Broad, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, James Anderson. Joe Root and company really need to figure out a way to break this partnership which has contributed more than 130 runs. Rahane is on 67 & Kohli on 60. 

So as India head to tea on Day 1, both Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have contributed with 107 runs.  This is for the first time in the series that the Indians have not lost a single wicket in a session. Both the captain and vice-captain have challenged the England bowlers  and even got half-centuries. Does Joe Root and company have a plan B for the Indians? With that amazing shot FOUR towards point, Ajinkya Rahane gets his 50. The vice-captain gets his 13th test 50. Happy faces in the dressing room. The scenario today is much better than the previous two Tests. India looks in total control and the two are batting beautifully. 

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have displayed immense grit post lunch. With that one run, Kohli gets his half-century. The Indian captain's 18th Test 50 came from 74 balls hitting 6 fours. Anjinkya Rahane too is inching toward his 50. So far the second session is dominated by the Indians. It's getting more and more difficult for England to break this partnership.

After Chesteshwar Pujara's departure, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane handle the reins of India. Kohli and Rahane have jointly brought in 64 runs for the wobbly side. Both Rahane and the Indian captain are inching towards their 50s. 

So the onus of taking India to a good total is on the Indian Captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes continue to trouble the Indian batsmen with their swing. There is a fair bit of a movement on the pitch and with this 100 comes up for India. Rahane continues to hit FOURS at regular intervals. 

Wickets continue to fall for India and fear history could repeat itself once again. India loses 3 vital wickets within the span of 8 overs. First, it was Shikhar Dhawan who got caught at the slips, KL Rahul soon followed him to the pavilion via an lbw and now Pujara.  England now heaves a sigh of relief! Now, that's lunch for time!

Aannnnnnnnnnddd it's Chris Woakes who does the job again for England! He gets the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara, who stands shell-shocked. Gets the inside line and he hit so unlike himself.   Adil Rashid makes no mistake and Pujara OUT on 14 off 31 balls. 

So India lose their second wicket in the form of KL Rahul as he gets an LBW! India took the review which didn't go in their favour.   Woakes gets his second wicket as KL Rahul gets OUT on 23. Woakes bowls an inswinger after bowling a series of outswingers.  Captain Virat Kohli the new man in. 

Chris Woakes STRIKES as he gets the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan! Edged and gone to the man at the slip.  Dhawan was looking to defend but Buttler makes no mistake at the slips. Cheteshwar Pujara the new man in. Shikhar Dhawan OUT on 35 of 65 balls. Quite an important wicket for England and in comes the fourth slip. 

Certainly a promising start for India.  Both KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan have been good. Also, the openers have rotated the strike and its quite a positive start. Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes and Anderson have bowled good balls but the two openers held their nerves. 1 run off the over! 

We love the intent of Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul today who seem to be executing all the plans discussed in the dressing room. So far so good for India. Shikhar Dhawan once again hit a couple of FOURS in the last over! KL Rahul too showing the grit to stick around and create a good opening partnership for India. He is playing a little more carefully looking at the movement of the pitch. Four slips in place for Ben Stokes who bowled the last over. 8 runs scored off the last over 

With this, Shikhar Dhawan gets 2200 test runs for India. He is the 30th Indian to do so. 

So Stuart Broad and James Anderson bowled to India in these 4 overs. Meanwhile, James Anderson comes to bowl the fifth over and Shikhar Dhawan hits a couple of FOURS in the last over. KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan need to give a solid start to India. 9 runs scored off the over!

Joe Root comes to bowl the first over. A fair bit of a movement in the pitch. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul open the innings for India. three slips and a gully in place for the Indian batsmen. 2 runs off the over.
