Day 1 of the test match at Lord’s Stadium is always special and what’s more interesting is the bell ringing ceremony. India’s test match with England was supposed to start yesterday, but rain played a spoilt sport and the day’s play was washed out due to incessant rains. Even the captains could not step on to the field for the toss. The traditional bell ringing ceremony was supposed to be done by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was at the Lord’s.
But rains had some other plans and when the day 2 play resumed England’s former captain Ted Dexter performed the traditional bell ringing ceremony. The official account of Lord’s stadium informed that Ted Dexter would be ringing the bell. Their tweet read, “Former @englandcricket captain Ted Dexter will ring the five-minute bell before start of play today. 📝➡️ http://goo.gl/4V4vcb #ENGvIND #LoveLords.”
“The ringing of the five-minute bell at a Lord’s Test by an international cricketer, administrator or well-known enthusiast of the sport is a recent tradition introduced in 2007. The bell, which is located outside the Bowlers’ Bar of the Lord’s Pavilion, is rung to signify the imminent start of play, and it has become a great honour to be invited to ring it on the morning of a Test match,” read the official website of the Lord’s stadium.
Yesterday, Sachin Tendulkar even tweeted about missing out on the bell ringing ceremony. “Was all set to ring the bell at Lords to start off the 2nd Test today, but unfortunately the weather had other plans.😊 Hopefully, we’ll get to see some good cricket over the next 4 days. @PaulJheeta, loved the colour of the suit. #ENGvIND,” read his tweet.
The day 2 started off on a bad note for India as they have lost a couple of wickets on the score of 11. James Anderson snapped the wickets KL Rahul and Murali Vijay. As of now, the play is obstructed due to rains. Check the live score of the match here.
