On the other side, Bangladesh took giant strides in international cricket and have proved their mettle against the top teams as well. With the ICC World T20 2020 with just one year away, both the teams will look to strengthen their bench strength and identify their best squad. In Shakib’s absence, Mahmudullah will hold the reins of the Bangladesh team. While Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian side as the regular skipper Virat Kohli is given a rest. The two sides fared off in nine T20Is before this series and the Men in Blue clinched all the clashes. So, the hosts clearly have the upper hand and will aim nothing less than a 3-0 whitewash. Meanwhile, let’s look at four Indian players who can make a mark in the upcoming series.
Rohit Sharma
The ‘Hitman’ was at his prime in the recently concluded India vs South Africa Test series. Rohit scored three blistering centuries and was adjudged the Man of the Series. Rohit will also lead the side and will eye to plunder big runs in the series. The standing Indian skipper just needs seven also needs just seven runs to go past Virat Kohli and become the highest run-scorer in T20Is. So, the stalwart will aim to go to the top and also guide India to victory.
Rishabh Pant
After warming the benches in the Test series against South Africa, the wicket-keeper batsman will aim to redeem himself in the shortest format. The southpaw has played some flabbergasting knocks in his short career but was often criticized for his ‘careless’ strokeplay. However, the 22-year old will want to rectify his mistakes and make a mark in the upcoming series.
Sanju Samson
After some phenomenal performances in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019, Samson finally got a break in the Indian team and is likely to feature in the playing XI too. The Kerela-born cricketer played his last International match back in 2015 and will aim to cement his spot this time around. The right-handed batsman also has an impressive record in the Indian Premier League and will eye to smash the Bangladeshi bowlers to all the parts of the ground.
Deepak Chahar
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar will have the onus to take wickets with the new ball. The right-arm pacer has the ability to swing the ball and can rattle the opposition batsman oh his day. Chahar has delivered some stupendous spell in the Indian Premier League and will aim to replicate his heroics against Bangladesh as well.
The first of the three-match T20I series will be played on November 3 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi. The Men in Blue will start the series as firm favourites and will want to rise to expectations and continue their dominance at home. The upcoming series will also be a great opportunity for the young players to put on some good performances and make their case stronger for the World T20 2020.
