AUS 405/7 in 101 Overs (Stumps) | India vs Australia Highlights of 3rd Test 2024 Day 2: Travis Head, Steve Smith Flatten Indian Bowling As Australia Take Control of Gabba Test Despite Jasprit Bumrah's Five-Wicket Haul

Australia are in complete command of the Test, thanks to tons by Travis Head and Steve Smith, respectively. Head slammed his third Test century against India, while Smith struck his 10th against the Asian giants. The duo added 220-odd runs that flattened India's bowling attack. No other bowler apart from Jasprit Bumrah managed to threaten the Australian line-up. India will have to play out of their skin to save or even remain in the Test moving ahead. 

Stumps! India's toil in the middle comes to an end on Day 2. The final 30 minutes of play witnessed Australia ransack Indian bowlers for runs, which include cameos from Pat Cummins and Alex Carey. India despite picking wickets with the second new-ball found themselves in a deep ditch.

After a flurry of wickets, the proceedings are back to normal, with Australian batters scoring runs against other Indian bowlers with Jasprit Bumrah out of the attack. Apart from Bumrah, no other pacer has even looked threatening, maybe Akash Deep in parts, but he too has not bowled up to standards.

Travis Head brings up his 150, and the crowd at The Gabba applauds the batter for his match-changing effort. This is Head's fifth 150 or more score in Test cricket and will look to convert this into his maiden double ton. 

OUT! New-ball does the trick for India, and Jasprit Bumrah gets rid of centurion Steve Smith. Well to be honest, Smith did all the damage before departing making a solid 101 off 190 balls, which also witnesses the batter add 200+ stand with Travis Head. HUNDRED! Steve Smith slams his 33rd Test hundred, and that too is a game-changing one. This is Smith's first century after June 2023, and his 10th against India. This was not the most fluent of hundreds for Smith who witnessed the batter survive several times against Akash Deep. This is also the second time that Smith and Head have added 200+ runs against India. 

Steve Smith and Travis Head have taken the Test beyond India's reach. Indian bowlers are now going through the motions and will reply on the new-ball for some miracle. Both Smith and Head have added 222 runs for the fourth wicket already. 

Back for the final session of play on Day 2, which has all belonged to Australia. Travis Head and Steve Smith have added 162 runs for the fourth wicket, which has put Indian in the backfoot. Rohit Sharma seems clueless in the middle, and the over-reliance on Jaspriut Bumrah is showing in the middle. 

Hundred! India just cannot find any solution for Travis Head. Head has become a never-ending for this current Indian team, which sees the Australian batter score back-to-back centuries in BGT 2024-25. This is Head's ninth Test century and third against India. Meanwhile, Australia have also crossed the 200-run mark, with Steve Smith and Head adding 

Fifty! A hard-fought Test half-century for Steve Smith, who survived a tough Askash Deep spell. The duo brought up their 100-run stand in merely 171 balls, where head played the part of the aggressor, and Smith had been the anchor. Australia have managed to run away with the Test given how easily Head is smacking boundaries .

FIFTY! And once again, Travis Head is pushing India away from the contest. Like the Pink-Ball Test, Head has produced a counter-attacking knock, where the all-rounder brought up his 18th Test half-century in 71 balls.  Steve Smith, too, is nearing a fifty. 

Steve Smith and Travis Head have managed to negate the early Jasprit Bumrah threat, and now look to cash in on other bowlers. Boundaries have started to flow for both the batters, easing any pressure. Rohit Sharma has introduced spin into the attack for the first time in this Test. 

Welcome back for the post-lunch session, which could decide the fate of the Test, as both teams will be eager to gain an early advantage. India will eye wickets, while Australia will look to pile on as many runs as possible before getting bundled out. 

LUNCH! The first session of play was quite engaging, where India managed to pick three wickets, and Australia, too, showcased counter-attacking cricket. Australia did not get bogged down and shut the door with Indian bowlers getting good purchase off the track. The post-lunch session will be crucial for both teams. 

After the fall of Marnus Labuschagne, the flow of runs for Australia has increased with the arrival of Travis Head in the middle. Head, once again, is looking settled, and taking the game away from the Indians. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj has gone off the field for some treatment after having issues with his left knee/hamstring.

Reddy bowled a probing line, which finally witnessed Marnus Labuschagne going for the drive, which unfortunately for Australia, only produced a thick edge into the safe hands of Virat Kohli standing in second slip. The post-drinks session for India has been quite frustrating, as they have not managed to claim a wicket despite close calls. Both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have played out the initial Jasprit Bumrah spell and added 29 runs in 74 balls.
