AUS 28/0 in 13.2 Overs (Stumps) | India vs Australia Highlights of 3rd Test 2024 Day 1: Rain Plays Spoilsport After India Fail To Take Initiative Despite Winning Toss

Apart from all the rain around Day 1 witnessed 13-odd overs of play, where India failed to get a breakthrough after opting to field first. Rohit Sharma upon winning the toss, banked on his pacers to down Australia, but lack of any swing or seam turned the tide in the hosts' favour. 

STUMPS! As expected Day 1 has been called off due to incessant rains, which forced as many as two full and one-half sessions of play to get washed out. All the remaining days of the Test will now have an early start to make up for the lost overs today. 

Hardly, there is anything new to add, apart from the fact that the rain has intensified in Brisbane. Indians must use this off-time and plan their next strategy given their decision to bowl first did not work well. Australia, on the other hand, will be happier of thee two side heading into Day 2. 

TEA! While we all wait for the rain to stop, umpires have decided to head into tea. The second session of play only saw a downpour from the skies, as players, fans, and match officials looked on for the weather to clear up. 

Fans looking for good news from Brisbane, are in for more disappointment, as rain continues to wreak havoc, and by the looks of it, the second session might not witness any play. 

Rain continues to pour down as hard as possible, which meant the start of play in the post-lunch session has been delayed. The playing field is as good as a swimming pool, given the amount of water collected on the covers. 

LUNCH! The umpires have decided to take lunch on Day 1. The first session has been about Australia batters surviving, and rain interrupting play twice. The rain is expected to die down after 1 pm local time, which means fans can expect some more cricket. 

Well, guess who is back? Yes, the rain is back to dampen the fun. India looked good before the rains interrupted play, where they could have had a wicket or two. So far, the pitch at The Gabba has been flat, and not helped the bowlers much. 

Indian pacers are toiling hard in the middle, and looking to justify Rohit Sharma's call of bowling first after winning the toss. Australian openers have had the luck of the green their way, while Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah have managed to come close to claiming a wicket. 

The game has resumed, with India desperately eying an early wicket. So far, the pitch has been flat, and both Indian bowlers have barely managed to get any swing. This could spell trouble for India, who opted to bowl under helpful bowling conditions. 

The rains have gone away, and the covers are slowly coming off the ground. However, the dark clouds persist at one end of The Gabba. The play should resume in about 10 minutes. 

As expected rains have managed to play spoilsport in the first session of play already.  The slight drizzle has ensured that players walk off the field, and the groundsmen start covering the pitch and the ground. This is expected to be a passing shower. 

Both Australian openers have done well not to hand Indian pacers an early breakthrough. Both Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah came narrowly close to tasting first-blood, but lady luck smiled in Australia's favour. 

For Australia, Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney would want to weather the early storm away and build on from their stands from the Adelaide Test. Jasprit Bumrah as expected has started the proceedings for India, with Rohit Sharma and Co eying early wickets.
