AUS 67/7 in 27 Overs (Trail by 83 Runs) Stumps | India vs Australia Highlights of 1st Test 2024 Day 1: Bowlers From Both Ends Dominate the Proceeding on Opening Day

A total of 17 wickets fell on Day One of the India vs Australia 1st Test 2024. Batting first India managed to put 150 runs on the board with Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc destroying the Indian batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah returned the favour and took four wickets in India's reply. Visitors are in control at the moment but Alex Carey holds the key for Australian first innings.

Jasprit Bumrah with a pair of wickets in back-to-back deliveries hands India a massive chance for visitors. Picking up Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith's wickets, India is certainly in the game right now.

Australian openers Usman Khawaja and debutant Nathan McSweeney are out in the middle, with Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah opening the bowling for the visitors. As expected, Bumrah bowled perfect line and length in his first over and created trouble for the newcomer despite getting hit for a boundary. Mohammed Siraj is also doing his best to pick up early wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah was early at the crease and departed after facing just eight balls handing a simple catch behind the stumps. Full delivery just outside off, Bumrah gets forward and reaches out for the drive but it straightens to find the edge. Out! Another quick wicket for Australia as Marnus Labuschagne took a sharp catch in the slip. Short of a length outside off delivery again, Rana tries punching off the back foot through the off-side but gets a thick edge. McSweeney dives one-handed but fails to hold on, but it deflects off his hand to the right of Marnus at third slip.  Following the dismissal of Rishabh Pant, Harshit Rana looked to play some aggressive shots and while doing so he handed a catch in the slip.  Harshit Rana c Marnus Labuschagne b Josh Hazlewood  7 (5)

100 up for India! Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy are playing well against the Australian attack and helped their side to cross the three-figure mark. Pant is batting 30, while debutant Reddy is batting on 22. 

After 36 overs, India had 91 runs on the board but lost six wickets. A pair of wickets for three pacers highlights the hosts' dominance while Indian batters struggled against the swing and bounce.

At the end of the first session, it was all Australia who picked up four top-order batters and gave away just 51 runs. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel have a massive task at hand to play out the remaining day and put some runs on the board at the same time. Team India will be looking to get a fresh start after the lunch break.
