After beating the West Indies in all the three formats i.e. Test, ODI & T20, the Indian Team is all set to travel Down Under for three T20s, four Test Series and three ODIs. The series is named as the Border Gavaskar Trophy and the three-match T20 series will start on November 21 at Brisbane. The T20I series will have a new face in form if Rishabh Pant who has now stepped into the shoes of MS Dhoni. Virat Kohli will once again be the skipper for the India team after being rested for the T20 series against West Indies. MS Dhoni EXCLUDED From T20 Squad for Series Against West Indies and Australia; Virat Kohli Rested for Caribbean T20 Matches, Rohit Sharma to Lead the Team.
India and Australia have had their bitter-sweet moments in their long-standing rivalry. While Australia has struggled to excel in India, it has been the same with India while they have travelled to Australia. The Indian team had a remarkable tour to South Africa, earlier this year. Though the team lost the series, 2-1, its performance in the series drew applause from all quarters. Not to forget, the Indian bowlers managed to skittle the entire Proteas line-up in all the three matches.
Currently, India is the top-ranked side in the world, as per the latest ICC Cricket Rankings. After losing first two Tests in Birmingham and London, India bounced back and secured a victory in the third game at Nottingham and proved that why are they called world-beaters at the moment!
The current pool of Indian bowlers has turned out be a lethal force in recent times. Their performance in overseas Tests has been fantastic. On the upcoming tour to Australia, India would be relying heavily on their bowlers to come good, if they want to bolster their chances of winning the ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19’. The last time the Indian team toured Australia, India lost the 4-match Test series, 2-0. Australia’s Philip Hughes death before the series and MS Dhoni’s shock retirement in the middle of the series were the talking points during their tour in 2014-15.
The Indian team had lost the first Test match by 48 runs at Adelaide after India suffered a collapse in their chase. India lost their last eight wickets for only 73 runs and eventually ended up on the losing side. In the second Test match at Brisbane, the Indian team lost by four wickets. The final two Tests, at Melbourne and Sydney, resulted in draws.
In their ODI fixtures after the Test series, India faced England and Australia in the Triangular ODI Series. The Indians played four matches in which they lost three, and one ended in no-result. The triangular series was won by Australia eventually.
Australia sans Steve Smith and David Warner won’t be as dangerous as they would be with their presence. However, the Indian batting line-up would be tested brutally against Josh Hazlewood’s accuracy, Pat Cummins pace, and Mitchell Starc’s consistency.
Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian team would be looking forward to winning the series, given that the form the current team is in. Also, considering the experience, India stands a great chance to trounce Australia in Australia later this year.
The tour of Australia will pose a severe test to India’s numero uno status. They say a team’s real test of character is when it wins on away tours, and what better can it get if it a series Down Under!
