India played against Afghanistan in an inconsequential Super 4 round match at Asia Cup 2018, on Tuesday. The match result was a tie, and it was for the eighth time in cricket history that the Indian team was involved in a tied match in the One Day International (ODI) format. The match saw the return of MS Dhoni as India’s captain as India had decided to rest key players in the game.

Perhaps, that was the reason that India saw Afghanistan pile-up a par-score against India in their first innings. India had rested Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, and Vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan. India vs Afghanistan Video Highlights Asia Cup 2018 Super Four Round: AFG Pull Off Last Over Tie Against IND.

India couldn’t hold back Afghanistan’s flamboyant wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad as he went on to score 124 runs in only 116 balls which included 11 fours, and 7 sixes. Mohammad Nabi scored a valuable half-century, 64 runs, in 56 balls which included 3 fours, and 4 sixes. India vs Afghanistan Highlights Asia Cup 2018: Match Ends in a Tie.

For India, KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu gave a solid platform and the team crossed the 100-run mark in the 16th over, without losing any wicket. The middle order comprising of MS Dhoni, Manish Pandey, and Kedar Jadhav couldn’t contribute significantly. And it was the brilliance of Rashid Khan who defended 6 runs in the last over to ensure that their team doesn’t suffer a third heart-break in a span of a week. Mohammad Shahzad, Centurion Against India at Asia Cup 2018 Once Said 'Why Diet Like Virat Kohli When You Can Hit Longer Sixes Than Him'.

As India vs Afghanistan match ended in a tie, the result also saw another record being written against MS Dhoni’s name. Not only did he became the oldest captain to lead Indian Men’s team, but also captained the Indian team for the 200th time, the third-most number of times in Men's ODI cricket.

It was a moment of euphoria for the Afghanistan team as they ensured that they didn’t end up on the losing side for the third time in the nail-biting encounters they were a part of, in the previous week. For India, and especially MS Dhoni, they were robbed of a victory!
