India played against Afghanistan in an inconsequential Super 4 round match at Asia Cup 2018, on Tuesday. The match result was a tie, and it was for the eighth time in cricket history that the Indian team was involved in a tied match in the One Day International (ODI) format. The match saw the return of MS Dhoni as India’s captain as India had decided to rest key players in the game.
Perhaps, that was the reason that India saw Afghanistan pile-up a par-score against India in their first innings. India had rested Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, and Vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan. As India vs Afghanistan match ended in a tie, the result also saw another record being written against MS Dhoni’s name. Not only did he became the oldest captain to lead Indian Men’s team, but also captained the Indian team for the 200th time, the third-most number of times in Men's ODI cricket.
It was a moment of euphoria for the Afghanistan team as they ensured that they didn’t end up on the losing side for the third time in the nail-biting encounters they were a part of, in the previous week. For India, and especially MS Dhoni, they were robbed of a victory!
