India Squad for Australia T20Is and ODIs Announced: Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah Return, KL Rahul Included, Dinesh Karthik Dropped; Mayank Markande Surprise Pick for T20s
While Bumrah was rested after the Test series against Australia in Australia, Kohli was rested after playing three ODIs against New Zealand.
The selection committee of Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has named the squads for the upcoming T20 Internationals and One-Day Internationals (ODIs) series against Australia. From February 24 onwards, India will host Australia for two T20Is and five-match ODIs. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli returns to both ODI and T20I squads and so does fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah. While Bumrah was rested after the Test series against Australia in Australia, Kohli was rested after playing three ODIs against New Zealand.
Apart from Kohli and Bumrah, right-handed batsman, KL Rahul returned to both the squads. Rahul along with Hardik Pandya was suspended following his misogynist comments in a famous celebrity talk show Koffee With Karan. The suspension, however, was lifted during the middle of India’s tour of New Zealand and only Pandya was recalled then. Meanwhile, selectors have dropped Dinesh Karthik from the ODI squad. He, however, retains his place for T20Is.
Selectors interestingly have picked spinner Mayank Markande for the two T20Is. Markande recently picked a five-wicket haul against England Lions while playing for India A during the second unofficial Test at Mysore. With Markande in T20I squad, selectors have opted to rest Kuldeep Yadav. Pacer Umesh Yadav has also been named in the T20I squad.
