New Zealand registered a historic win over India in the second Test of the three-match series played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The Kiwis defeated India by 113 runs and were able to achieve their first-ever Test series win in India. New Zealand also became the first-ever team to defeat India in India after a gap of more than 12 years. The Kiwis totally outplayed the Indian batting lineup in Pune and never really allowed them to settle throughout the match. The Test match started off with Kiwis opting to bat first on a dry Pune surface. Tom Latham and Devon Conway helped their team achieve a decent start and added 32 runs for the first wicket. Latham was the first batter to fall as he was trapped in front by Ravichandran Ashwin. Will Young also gave decent support to Conway he was also dismissed by Ashwin for 18 runs. Rachin Ravindra came out to bat and continued from where he left in the last match. The duo of Conway and Rachin added 62 runs from 117 balls which provided stability to the Kiwis. At the end, Ashwin dismissed Conway for a score of 76 runs.

Mitchell Santner Rips Off Indian Batting Lineup

New Zealand created another partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell which took the Kiwis to a score of 197 runs. Washington Sundar began his hunt for wickets and firstly dismissed Rachin Ravindra and kept on taking wickets from her on regular intervals. The Kiwis were wrapped up for 259 runs in their first innings courtesy of a seven-wicket haul from Washington Sundar.

The Indian team didn't start off well in its first innings as Rohit Sharma departed for a nine-ball duck at the end of Day 1. Mitchell Santner began to trouble the Indian batting lineup and kept on picking wickets on regular intervals. Top Indian names such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan fell off against the Kiwi spinners. The Kiwis were once again off to a brilliant start in their second innings wherein openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham added 36 runs. Conway was dismissed by Washington Sundar, followed by Will Young who fell to Ravichandran Ashwin. Rachin Ravindra was dismissed by a cracker off a delivery from Washington Sundar. The Kiwis were 123/4 at one stage and looked like will be wrapped up quickly but Tom Latham took the onus in his hands and played an innings of 86 runs. At the end of Day 2, New Zealand finished at 198/5 and led by 301 runs.

The Indian team needed something special from the bowlers on Day 3 which they received in the form of Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja knocked off New Zealand's lower order quickly by taking up five wickets quickly. In the end, New Zealand were wrapped up for 255 runs and set up a target of 359 runs for the hosts. Team India began proceedings in the second in attacking fashion as Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed fours and sixes from the first ball. Rohit was dismissed by Mitchell Santner whereas Jaiswal continued his attacking approach from the other end.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal ensured that the Indian team didn't lose any other wicket at Lunch on Day 3. The duo added 62 runs from 59 balls for the second wicket and at one point it looked like the Indian team was inching smoothly towards a historic run chase. However, Mitchell Santner had other plans as he dismissed Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan in quick succession. Santner also ran out Rishabh Pant for a duck which broke the backbone of Team India's batting lineup. At the end, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin tried to show some grace and take the Indian team over the finish line. The duo put up a stand of 39 runs from 75 balls. However, it wasn't enough to take the Indian team through and at the end, the Tom Latham's men wrapped up the hosts for 245 runs and won the match by 113 runs.
