So India cap off what has been a brilliant day of play. Ravichandran Ashwin (5/60) turned up in the first innings with a brilliant five-wicket haul as West Indies were bowled out for just 150 runs. Mohammed Siraj  (1/25) , Shardul Thakur (1/15)  and Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) too were amongst the wickets. Alick Athanaze, West Indies' debutant, top scored with 47 runs. Having had a dominant bowling show in the first innings, India came out confident in the second innings with skipper Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal batting with dominance. Both have remained undefeated at the close of play on Day 1 with Rohit scoring 30* and Yashasvi 40*. For West Indies, Jason Holder bowled four overs conceding only six. India now trail West Indies by 70 runs and are in full control of proceedings in this match. 

Play has resumed after a brief rain stoppage in Dominica. India have been dominant and with not many overs to go, they would want both openers to get through the day. India now trail by just 82 runs. 

And the rain has arrived, stopping play in Dominica. The groundsmen did not realise it had started pouring hard but eventually rushed off with the covers. India have put themselves in a good position here with 66 runs on the board without losing any wicket in 15.5 overs. Both Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have looked good so far and West Indies would need a miracle to come back into the match. 

India have had a strong start, with the opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal crossing the 50-run mark. Both have played some good shots and adapted well to the conditions. West Indies on the other hand, are still on the lookout for a wicket and have had a couple of appeals against Rohit Sharma. Their bowling too has not posed any major threat to either Rohit or Yashasvi. 

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have begun steadily for India on Day 1 of this first Test. Both openers have looked composed and played good shots. While Rohit did not take much time to get off the mark, Yashasvi Jaiswal's first runs in Test cricket came in the form of a cut shot in the sixth over bowled by Alzarri Joseph. Rohit Sharma has had some nervous moments after having survived a review for lbw early on. India would ideally want both of these players to see out the remainder of the day. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma began proceedings for India on Day 1 after they bowled West Indies out for just 150. Jaiswal faced the first over by Kemar Roach which was a maiden. India would want both these players to remain undefeated today to cap off a dominant day of cricket. 

OUT! And Ravichandran Ashwin has a five-wicket haul! Totally deserved this one! Jomel Warrican gloved the ball and Shubman Gill caught the ball but was not sure about it. The decision was reviewed and the third umpire ruled it as out. Ashwin completed his 33rd five wicket haul with this dismissal as West Indies manage just 150 runs. OUT! Ravindra Jadeja has dismissed Kemar Roach with the ball first hitting the pad and then the bat. He went up in appeal along with the other Indian players and Rohit Sharma went for a review, which showed that the ball would have crashed onto the middle and off-stumps. Ravichandran Ashwin's terrific four-wicket haul has flattened the West Indies in the first two first two sessions of the 1st Test. Ashwin, who became the third Indian bowler to take 700 wickets in international cricket, also got the big wicket of debutant Alick Athanaze, who showed promise with his 47-run knock. India would look to finish off the innings early here and have Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma out in the middle today itself.

The left-hander, batting on 47, went for a big shot but miscued it and Shardul Thakur ended up taking another catch. OUT! One more and Ravichandran Ashwin has completed 700 international wickets! Alzarri Joseph attempted a big shot but could end up skiing one with Jaydev Unadkat completing a good catch. He and Alick Athanaze were rebuilding the West Indies' innings after losing early wickets, but he went for a pull shot with Shardul Thakur taking a good catch. West Indies are in a spot of bother and need a solid partnership from Jason Holder and debutant Alick Athanaze to see them out of trouble here. Ravindra Jadeja has struck after lunch as well, dismissing Joshua Da Silva and India are all over West Indies at the moment in this match. From India's perspective, they would look to break this stand and potentially bowl out West Indies on Day 1, especially with this sort of a start in the first two sessions.

OUT! Ravindra Jadeja has gotten his name into the wickets column with the dismissal of Jermaine Blackwood. The right-hander went for a big hit but Mohammed Siraj took an exceptional catch to complete the dismissal. West Indies have lost four in the first session and that wicket has led to lunch being taken. India clearly are the happier team at the moment. OUT! India have another wicket and this time, it is Shardul Thakur who has struck in his very first over! The all-rounder induced an edge off Raymon Reifer's bat and Ishan Kishan ended up taking a good catch. The right-hander went for a big shot but ended up skyeing the ball only for his counterpart Rohit Sharma to take the catch. OUT! Ravichandran Ashwin has drawn the first blood for India and it is Tagenarine Chanderpaul who has to depart! The iconic off-spinner came up with a tossed-up delivery and the batter who had opted for a defensive shot was completely beaten. The ball hit the stumps and West Indies have lost their first! West Indies have had a good and watchful start to their innings after choosing to bat first in the 1st Test against India. Kraigg Brathwaite, Tagenarine Chanderpaul both have looked to rotate the strike but have a bit of a cautious approach in this contest. So far, the contest has been a good one with Mohammed Siraj and Jaydev Unadkat the bowlers India have used so far.
