So after losing the last game, in Trivandrum, the Indian team had a couple of days to draft their strategies for the decider. Now after winning the toss, West Indies elected to bowl first. Local boy Rohit Sharma made 71 runs from 34 balls and laced his innings with six fours and five maximums. Whereas, KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 91 from 56 balls. After Rishabh Pant made an exit on a golden duck, the Indian cricket captain shifted gears and put a stunning cameo of 70 runs from 29 balls. India made a total of 240 runs on the board. It was Mohammed Shami who rattled the first wicket as Lendl Simmons was the first one to depart. Brendon King followed. But Shimron Hetmyer and Kieron Pollard stood tall to defend a mammoth total as they made 41 and 68 respectively. The team lost eight wickets and fell 67 runs short.

KL Rahul becomes the Man of the Match for his stunning knock of 91 runs and a couple of catches. Virat Kohli walks away with the Man of the Series award. “Batting first we won and feels really good. I know I can contribute in all three formats. I think two guys in the middle with clarity and the way Rahul and Rohit played today was the key today,” said the Indian cricket captain after winning the game.
