New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra smashed a brilliant hundred during the IND vs NZ 1st Test 2024 and played an innings of 134 runs from 157 balls. Ravindra achieved the second Test century of his career and became only the second Kiwi batter to hit a ton in India after Ross Taylor. Rachin played a major role in helping the Kiwis post a total of 402 runs and gain a lead of 356 runs in their first innings. The Indian bowlers tried everything to dismiss the left-handed Indian-origin batter but the fortunes only favoured the Kiwis. Rachin Ravindra Slams His Second Test Century, Achieves Feat During IND vs NZ 1st Test 2024.

Why Was Rachin Ravindra Given Not Out?

During the match, there were several moments where Rachin Ravindra could have been given out but in the end, luck favoured him and Team India fell shy of his wicket. Such a moment occurred during the first ball of the 88th over when Mohammed Siraj nearly dismissed Ravindra with a caught behind. Rachin tried to step down the wicket but missed the ball which went straight to the wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

The Indian cricketers went ecstatic and appealed for a caught behind. There was a little noise and the umpire for the first time looked agreeing with the Indian players and gave Rachin Ravindra out. While the Kiwi batter looked confused, he opted for a DRS. The snicko meter showed a deflection when the ball had passed through his bat whereas no deflection was seen when the ball was near the bat. Hence, despite being given out by the umpire, the decision was overturned and Ravindra survived. However, there might be a faint edge of the bat which was caught late by the snicko meter. BCCI Provides Update on Rishabh Pant’s Knee Injury Sustained During IND vs NZ 1st Test 2024 Day 2 (See Post).
