Ahead of the first day of the third test between India vs England at Nottingham, the Indian players wore black bands on their sleeves to pay respects to late cricketer Ajit Wadekar. Now, while commentating Michael Holding took a jibe at the Indian cricket team for wearing the black band. He went on to say that the players were not wearing bands because they are 0-2 down in the series. India lost the last two tests one at Edgbaston and the other at Lord’s.
The one at Edgbaston was lost by 31 runs. Whereas the Indians suffered a humiliating defeat at Lord’s by an inning and 159 runs. Thus India were down by 0-2 in the series. Now, Holding mocked India’s current situation while being on-air said, “Indian players are wearing the black band not because they are 0-2 down.”
No sooner he made the comment, the netizens slammed him and posted angry comments on social media. Check out a few comments below:
“@SkyCricket Michael Holding ..... Why would any parent want to bring their kids to watch cricket. When a thug like Ben Stokes is portrayed as a role model by the ECB AND THE England Captain and management?,” said a netizen.
Another social media user called him a disgrace.
“Indian players are wearing black armbands, not because they are 2-0 down. Ouch! #ENGvIND,” wrote a netizen.
“#ENGvIND India wearing black armbands not bcoz they are 0:2 down but coz Ajit Wadekar passed away” What kind of trolling is this Mr Michael Holding ? @SkyCricket,” read a post.
“@Athersmike indian government is gonna sue sky sports commentator michael holding for his disgraceful comments on the black arm band worn by team india,” read a tweet.
Talking about the first day, England won the toss and opted to bowl. Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara are the ones who have already made way to the pavilion. As of now, India’s score is 82/3.
