Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara hit half-centuries as India needed a little over one session to go past Bangladesh’s first innings tally after the Indian pacers, led by the new-born Ishant Sharma, completely annihilated Bangladesh folding the visitors for just 106 runs. It was demolition at its most cruel mode as the trio of Ishant, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami demolished Bangladesh in just 30 overs. Kohli and Pujara together hit 14 boundaries between them in just 26 overs, with the former even scoring his first runs with a boundary. Kohli remained not-out to complete India’s full dominance over their east-Asian rivals in what was a memorable day of cricket for both the nations. Both India and Bangladesh stepped out for their first-ever day-night Test and played the pink ball with Eden Gardens and Kolkata paying a superb host to the special occasion. India Vs Bangladesh, Live Cricket Score 2nd Test Match.

The Indian pacers, led by Ishant Sharma, then added to the bonanza for the home crowd by dismantling and demolishing the Bangladesh batting with some superb spell of fast bowling. Eden played hosts again as India led by Ishant – who recorded his 10th five-wicket haul – completely bruised, battered and baffled the visitors with sensational bowling. All India needed was 30 overs and a little less than two sessions on Day 1 of the day-night Test to complete a clinical demolition of Bangladesh, two of whose batsman had to retire after being hit on the head and whose only four batsmen could register double figures. Sachin Tendulkar Relieves Famous 2001 Test: Entire Dressing Room Went Numb, Silent When VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid Batted.

Ishant started the rout for India by trapping the already struggling Imrul Kayes in just the seventh over before three of Bangladesh’s main-stays were dismissed for ducks in a space of 12 deliveries. Mahmuudullah didn’t last long either and was caught by Wriddhiman Saha – he completed his 100 dismissals in Test cricket – giving Ishant the second of his five wickets. Mominul Haque, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiuq Rahim and Mahmudullah – the four “M’s” of Bangladesh’s middle-order – together combined for six runs with the first three going for ducks.  Reunion at Eden Gardens! Liton Das and Nayeem Hasan showed glimpses of some rearguard action towards the latter half of the first session before lunch but Das was forced to retire hurt after being hit on the head by a Mohammed Shami bouncer leaving Ishant to complete his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and just second at home. This was also the first time since 2008 that Ishant has taken a five-fer at home. His figures of 5/22 took him one tally short of equalling Zaheer Khan for the second most number of five-wicket hauls by Indian fast bowlers.

Bangladesh though started well and had the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma (21) and Mayank Agarwal (14) back in the pavilion for just 43 runs. Mayank, who hit several milestones during his double hundred knock in the first Test at Indore, was the first to depart after nicking Al-Amin to Mehidy Hasan at Gully.

Rohit, who survived a dropped chance before Tea failed to last long and was trapped by Ebadat Hossain for his first wicket. Pujara and Kohli then steadied the ship with an important 93-run stand, during which India also overtook Bangladesh's first innings tally. Pujara eventually was dismissed by Ebadat Hossain 12 deliveries after the Indian had registered his 24th half-century and had already stitched a vital 93-run partnership with the Indian skipper. Following Pujara’s dismissal, Rahane ensures no more casualties by assisting the skipper, who not only smashed his 23rd half-century but also became the fastest captain to hit 5000 or more Test runs.
