A good day of cricket with both teams battling hard to gain the upper hand. The hosts were rocked early in the first session of the day with Nathan Lyon taking a four-wicket haul after which Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja steadying the Indian innings. Kohli's good-looking innings was cut short by a slightly controversial call from the umpire. Nonetheless, the biggest highlight for India was the remarkable 114-run partnership between Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel, which bailed India out of trouble and took them close to the Aussie total, with the visitors eventually having a one-run lead. Lyon ended up with a five-wicket haul (5/67). Out came Usman Khawaja and Travis Head to build up Australia's lead and they started well. But Jadeja struck, dismissing Khawaja with Shreyas Iyer pulling off a fine catch. The game is eventually poised at this stage.

18 Feb, 16:41 (IST)

OUT! What a catch that is by Shreyas Iyer! Usman Khawaja opted to play the paddle sweep but the ball went straight to Shreyas Iyer at leg gully, who hangs on and completes the dismissal. Indians would be very happy to have a wicket and that too of Khawaja as play is nearing its end. Usman Khawaja c Shreyas Iyer b Ravindra Jadeja 6(13)

18 Feb, 16:22 (IST)

Travis Head is opening the innings with Usman Khawaja in David Warner's absence. Warner was earlier ruled out of this Test match due to a concussion and it means his replacement, Matt Renshaw, will be batting in the middle-order.

18 Feb, 16:11 (IST)

OUT! And India's innings comes to an end with Matthew Kuhnemann dismissing Mohammed Shami. Shami went for a heave and Kuhnemann's full delivery rattled his stumps. Australia have a one-run lead. Mohammed Shami b Matthew Kuhnemann 2(9)

OUT! And Pat Cummins has struck in his first over with the new ball and dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin went for a flick shot but it was a slightly aerial one with Matt Renshaw taking a good catch at square leg. A good catch to end that big partnership for India. Ravichandran Ashwin c Matt Renshaw b Pat Cummins 37(71)

18 Feb, 15:43 (IST)

Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin have completed a 100-run partnership and this has completely taken away the momentum from Australia. The two got together at a time when India were in a spot of bother and have lifted the side out of trouble and into a position of strength.

18 Feb, 15:21 (IST)

FIFTY for Axar Patel! The left-hander has turned out to be one of India's most valuable assets in the longest format of the game. In the second consecutive game, he has come out and scored a fifty, this time, when the team was in a spot of bother. What a knock this is!

18 Feb, 15:06 (IST)

Ravi Ashwin has completed 5000 runs in first-class cricket with the all-rounder achieving yet another milestone in his career. He had earlier completed 700 wickets in his first-class career.

18 Feb, 14:50 (IST)

Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel's partnership has lifted India after Nathan Lyon's five-wicket haul derailed the hosts' 1st innings effort. The two all-rounders have stitched a 58-run stand that has taken India close to the Australian total.

18 Feb, 14:27 (IST)

It is tea on Day 2 with Australia again gaining control over the game with Nathan Lyon competing a five-wicket haul. The talking point of the session would be Virat Kohli's dismissal, which was under controversial circumstances with the ball seeming to hit the bat on its way to the pad. Australia struck with the dismissals of Ravindra Jadeja and KS Bharat to peg India back further. But Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin are out there in the middle and the two have shown promise.

18 Feb, 13:27 (IST)

OUT! Nathan Lyon completes his five-wicket haul and what an effort this has been. KS Bharat, who played the reverse sweep earlier, failed to connect with a good sweep shot and the ball lobbed up, with Steve Smith taking a simple catch. A shot that was not needed. This was also Nathan Lyon's 100th wicket against India. KS Bharat c Steve Smith b Nathan Lyon 6(12)

18 Feb, 13:17 (IST)

OUT! And a debutant has dismissed Virat Kohli again! The delivery bowled by Matthew Kuhnemann was defended by Kohli and it seemed that he has been struck on the pad. The umpire signalled it out and Kohli reviewed the call, with replays showing he might have edged it on to his pads. The decision was given as per umpire' call and Kohli will feel that he has been hard done here. Virat Kohli lbw b Matthew Kuhnemann 44(84)

18 Feb, 13:00 (IST)

OUT! The partnership between Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja has been broken by Todd Murphy, who has dismissed the left-hander. Jadeja offered a defensive shot but the ball hit his pads with the umpire having no hesitation in raising his finger. Jadeja reviewed the decision but it was plumb, with reviews showing three reds. Play resumes after lunch on Day 2. Nathan Lyon's four wickets have put Australia ahead at the moment but India will want the partnership between Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja to flourish.

18 Feb, 11:36 (IST)

What a session it has been for Australia, who have dominated proceedings in this Test. Nathan Lyon was the wrecker-in-chief for Australia, for taking the wickets of KL Rahul (17), Rohit Sharma (32), Shreyas Iyer (4) and Cheteshwar Pujara (0). India have been rocked back but Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have looked steady. The two will look to bail India out of trouble and take the side to a  position of comfort.
