Check commentary and live score updates of Day 1 of the IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. India have a 1-0 lead in the Border Gavaskar Trophy after a dominant win by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test.
And India survive the day unscathed with 21 runs on the board. Australia chose to bat first and Usman Khawaja played a quality innings of 81 runs. But India's spinners were in action again with both Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja taking three wickets apiece. Moahammed Shami was the best bowler for India with figures of 4/60. Apart from Khawaja, Peter Handscomb played a good hand and was responsible for Australia getting to 263 before being bowled out. It was a day where both teams had their moments of having some control of proceedings. With India trailing by 242 runs, things will get more interesting on Day 2 with the visitors looking for early wickets. India on the other hand, would be keen on having both Rahul and Rohit put up a solid opening stand.
India have had a watchful start to this innings and both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will hope to see out the day with no damage done to the wickets column.Â
A stylish way to start the innings! Rohit Sharma, who is in great form at the moment, starts off with a boundary off Pat Cummins. He and KL Rahul will hope to stay undefeated at the crease.Â
OUT! Mohammed Shami finishes things off for India as he dismisses Matthew Kuhnemann to end Australia's 1st innings to just 263. Peter Handscomb played a gritty 72-run knock and he ensured Australia now have a decent first innings total. Shami has four wickets with spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja taking three apiece. Matthew Kuhnemann b Mohammed Shami 6(12)
OUT! Timbeeerrrrr! Mohammed Shami has castled Nathan Lyon with a delivery that seemed to shape in a bit. Lyon attempted to play a drive but missed the ball that rattling the stumps behind him. He holds the pose for the cameras as Shami celebrates. Nathan Lyon b Mohammed Shami 10(26)Â
OUT! One more wicket falls, just as it has been all day, as Ravindra Jadeja gets the better of Todd Murphy this time. The ball pitched and spun to knock out Murphy's stumps, with the southpaw attempting to play a loose drive. India have eight wickets and will hope to take the two remaining ones in quick time.  Todd Murphy b Ravindra Jadeja 0(4)
OUT! Pat Cummins' resistance has come to an end, with Ravindra Jadeja providing the breakthrough. It was a straightforward call for the umpire as the ball would hit the stumps and Cummins opted for a review, which showed three reds. Australia seven down now. Pat Cummins lbw b Ravindra Jadeja 33(59)
FIFTY for Peter Handscomb! The right-hander has played a solid innings here and stitched a crucial partnership with skipper Pat Cummins, which has arrested Australia's collapse and taken the side to a good position. He will look to make this big from here on.Â
Peter Handsomb and Pat Cummins are in the middle as they attempt to take Australia to a competitive total. They will look to add as much runs as possible before being dismissed. India ideally will want to bat today and restrict Australia to little more above 200.Â
India and Australia have shared this session. Australia looked to exert their dominance with Usman Khawaja leading the way with Travis Head as his partner. But both their innings were ended courtesy of sensational catches from KL Rahul. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made an impact once again. However, Australia have Peter Handscomb (36) and Pat Cummins (23*) at the crease while India will look to end the Australian 1st innings as early as possible.Â
OUT! And another one falls with Ravichandran Ashwin striking again! He has dismissed Alex Carey with Virat Kohli taking a fine catch in the slip cordon. What a turnaround this is and India have taken two in quick succession. This was Ashwin's 100th wicket against Australia. Alex Carey c Virat Kohli b Ravi Ashwin 0(5)
OUT! What a catch that is! KL Rahul has been simply sensational on the field today and this catch is a testament to that. Usman Khawaja, who looked so good today, has been dismissed. Khawaja tried to play the reverse sweep and Rahul pulled off a one-handed stunner to get rid of the set batter! Australia have lost a big wicket and the Indians are delighted! Usman Khawaja c KL Rahul b Ravindra Jadeja 81(125)
OUT! What a catch this is! Mohammed Shami has struck after lunch and dismissed Travis Head with KL Rahul taking a superb catch at second slip! India have another wicket at the start of the session and Australia need a partnership here. Travis Head c KL Rahul b Mohammed Shami 12(30)
Usman Khawaja and Travis Head have some work to do here after they were pegged back by Ravichandran Ashwin, who has put India ahead in this Test match after taking the wickets of both Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in one over.Â
A very good session of play for both teams. Australia had a 50-run opening partnership between David Warner and Usman Khawaja but India fought back hard with three wickets, including the big ones of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. Both the right-handers fell to Ravichandran Ashwin in one over and we are up for an exciting session ahead.Â
FIFTY for Usman Khawaja! The left-hander has looked good and despite surviving some close calls. he has been superb. It has been his positive attitude that has seemed to make a difference for Australia in this Test match. Meanwhile, with Marnus Labuschagne's dismissal, Ravi Ashwin has completed 700 wickets in first-class wickets! What a champion bowler he is!Â
OUT! What a big wicket this is! Ravi Ashwin has dismissed Steve Smith, with KS Bharat taking a beautiful catch! Two big wickets in one over and suddenly, Australia's innings seem to be falling apart! Steve Smith c KS Bharat b Ravichandra Ashwin 0(2)
OUT! Ravichandran Ashwin has struck and dismissed Marnus Labuschagne. He appealed hard after the ball spun and struck him on the pads. The umpire did not give it as out after which Rohit Sharma opted for a review. which showed three reds with no inside edge. What a big wicket! Marnus Labuschagne lbw b Ashwin 18(25)
OUT! And Mohammed Shami has dismissed David Warner in the 1st innings for the second time in this series! Shami came round the wicket and bowled the delivery with Warner edging it to KS Bharat behind the stumps. India have the breakthrough that they were after all morning. The left-hander did get a start but has failed to make it big and he will be disappointed. David Warner c KS Bharat b Mohammed Shami 15(44)
The contest is getting quite feisty for both teams with David Warner and Usman Khawaja trying to attack the Indian bowlers. Ravi Ashwin has been called in early to pick up a wicket and he has seemed to pose a bit of problem for both Warner and Khawaja. Khawaja has looked more in control out of the two batters.Â
India and Australia meet again in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23, starting today. Rohit Sharma and his men will be pretty upbeat about performing well after they dominated the Nagpur game. Bowling out Australia twice in three days is no easy task. The Indian spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin proved why they were so highly-rated cricketers in this format. Skipper Rohit Sharma also came good with the bat, scoring a scintillating 120 in Indiaâs first innings total of 400. Given how things went, India start this contest as favourites but Australians are expected to make a strong comeback. India vs Australia 2nd Test 2023 Day 1 Live Streaming Online on Disney+ Hotstar: Get Free Live Telecast of IND vs AUS Border Gavaskar Trophy Match on TV With Time in IST.
In all likelihood, India will make a maximum of one change in their XI, with a fit-again Shreyas Iyer returning in place of Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav made his debut last game but could not make an impact with the bat, falling to Nathan Lyon. Australia can have a couple of stars returning in the form of Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, which would undoubtedly be massive additions to their playing XI.
A good start to this Test match will once again set the tone for how things go about, for both these teams. The match is also memorable for Cheteshwar Pujara, who is set to play his 100th Test. Local boy Virat Kohli will also be in the spotlight for his performance at a ground where he has a double hundred against Sri Lanka. Who will come out on top?
