What a day it has been for India but Australia will have some confidence after getting rid of KL Rahul towards the end. Nonetheless, it has been a day that India have dominated, with both bat and ball. After being asked to bowl first, the pacers got the early breakthroughs after which India's spin attack joined the party. Ravindra Jadeja was the best bowler, getting his 11th five-wicket haul in Tests while Ravi Ashwin completed 450 wickets in the longest format. Australia could manage just 177 and it was largely due to the efforts of Marnus Labuschagne (49), Alex Carey (36) and Peter Handscomb (31). India had a terrific start to the second innings of this match, with skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul putting together 76 runs for the opening wicket. While the Indian captain scored his 15th Test fifty, Rahul was more cautious. But he fell prey to Australia's debutant Todd Murphy, who took a simple catch of his own bowling to give his side some relief at the end of the day.

FIFTY! Rohit Sharma has batted well to get to a well-composed half-century off just 66 balls. The Indian captain has shown intent and attacked the Australian bowlers, not allowing them to settle down. It is his 15th Test half-century. 

It has been some start from the Indian openers, with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul getting a half-century opening partnership. The Indian captain has been the aggressor in this stand with KL Rahul more watchful and cautious. India will want the two to continue and score some more runs, getting closer to the Australian total of 177. 

India have had a strong response to Australia's 177 with skipper Rohit Sharma leading from the front. The Indian captain has played some fine shots of both the spinners and fast bowlers to nullify the threat that the Australian bowlers have posed. India will want him and KL Rahul to lay the foundation for a solid total with good opening stand.

The experienced spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin has resumed the action post the tea break. Australia have Peter Handscomb and Nathan Lyon out in the middle and the two will hope to add as many runs as they can from here on. This is a tricky period for Australia and Handscomb has to take most of the responsibility. 

What a session it has been for India! Six wickets fell and 98 runs have been scored. Ravindra Jadeja was wrecker-in-chief, getting four wickets, including both Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. Ravichandran Ashwin too got into the mix with two wickets, which saw him cross the 450 wickets mark in Test cricket. A good 53-run stand between Alex Carey and Peter Handscomb seemed to take the game for a brief while but the Indian spinners have left their mark on this game. A session which was owned by India.

The umpire gave it out and Murphy's review of the decision showed that he did not hit the ball. However, the delivery trapped him right in front of the stumps with the pitch not having enough bounce. OUT! Ravichandran Ashwin has got his second wicket of the day and it is that of Australian captain Pat Cummins. The right-hander edged one to slips where Virat Kohli, after misjudging a chance to dismiss Peter Handscomb, pouched it safely. The veteran off-spinner bowled Alex Carey, who went to play a reverse sweep but ended up under-edging the ball onto the stumps! OUT! Ravindra Jadeja is literally turning this contest on its head here! This time, he has gotten rid of the dangerous Steve Smith, who has been bowled by a straight delivery. The left-hander did not expect that sort of delivery first up and the ball moved past the edge and caught Renshaw in front of the stumps. Australia have begun well after lunch with Steve Smith pulling Mohammed Shami for a boundary in the first over following the break. Shami then trapped Smith in front of the stumps but the ball looked to be missing and India after an on-field appeal, did not opt for a DRS. 

The Australians have managed to fight back into this contest with two of their best batters-Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith out in the middle. The two right-handers have absorbed the pressure and played some fine shots. They have stitched an undefeated 74-run stand and the highlight of the partnership was how well they played spin. The two would hope to continue the same way while India will seek a wicket after the lunch break. 

The partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne has been good for Australia after the early dismissals of Usman Khawaja and David Warner. India have now used all three spinners in this contest but both these batters have judged the length pretty well and not offered much to the bowlers. A 55-run partnership between these two and it looks a promising one.
