India and Australia meet at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the famous Boxing Day Test. It is the third Test of the four-match series which is currently levelled at one each. After India won the opening Test match at the Adelaide Oval, Australia made a comeback in the series and won the second game at Perth. Test Matches Played at MCG: India have featured in 12 matches at the MCG. The first Test at the venue between these two teams was played in 1948 which Australia won by a margin of 233 runs. Out of 12, India have managed to win just two matches, lost eight and two ended in a draw. The two wins games in 1977-1978 and 1981.
India’s Highest Test Total at MCG: 465 is India’s highest Test total at MCG. It was scored in the second innings of the Test match in 2014. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, the current captain and vice-captain respectively, score a century each. Kohli scored 169 while Rahane slammed 147. The Test match ended in a draw.
India’s Lowest Test Total at MCG: In 1948, India were bundled out for 67 in their second innings and it remains the lowest total for India at MCG. India were following-on and thus lost the match by an innings and 177 runs. It was the second Test at the venue between India and Australia. Most Test Runs for India at MCG: Sachin Tendulkar has scored 449 runs in ten innings at MCG. It includes a century and three half-centuries. Kohli and Rahane are amongst the top ten with 234 and 195 runs respectively. While Kohli has played two, Rahane has featured in just one Test.
Most Test Wickets for India at MCG: Former Indian captain Anil Kumble has taken 15 wickets at the venue from three matches. Amongst the current lot of fast-bowler Umesh Yadav leads the last with 12 wickets from two matches.
