After a horrendous start by the Afghan bowling attack, the bowlers came back well in the ending hours of the day. With rain providing a cushion, the Afghan bowlers were quite impressive as they drew edges from the perplexed Indian batsmen.
The Indian team is in a commanding position as the day ends. However, not all is lost for the Afghanistan team. Overall, it was a great day of sport with both teams having edge over each other at different points in time.
Here, we end our coverage of Day 1 | Join in with us tomorrow for the live updates of the second day of this historic Test match between India and Afghanistan.
India ends the first day on a strong note, despite half of the team returning to the dressing room in the last session. India lost the wickets of Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Dinesh Karthik in the last few hours of the match. The Afghanistan bowlers did a fine job by bowling superbly in the last couple of hours in the match.
Dinesh Karthik is RUN OUT! as he fails to get back in the crease in time. India loses another wicket in the last session. Pujara at fault there.
Karthik plays a defensive shot and sets off for a single. Pujara responds positively to the call; however, he stops in his run, and Karthik who is halfway down the pitch, fails to return. Karthik is not happy as he keeps looking back at Pujara while returning to the dressing room.
R Ashwin is the new man in. The Afghanistan team is slowly making its way back into the match; five wickets in the session already.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman gets an important wicket if Cheteshwar Pujara as the bowler bowls a googly. Pujara pushes it to the man on the leg side. Pujara OUT on 35. Pandya the new man in.Â
Finally, Rashid Khan strikes for the team as he bowls a googly and Rahane misses the back-foot flick. Rahane OUT on 10 runs off 45 balls. Dinesh Karthik the new man in.Â
Finally, Afghanistan got their first wicket as Yamin Ahmadzai bowled away from the off stump landing the ball into the second slip. Dhawan OUT for 107. KL Rahul the new man in.Â
So the morning session ends with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 104 unbeaten. At lunch, India is on the score of 158 for no loss. Team Afghanistan will have to review their bowling tactics during the break. Far too many boundaries have been conceded this session. Clearly, India has dominated the first session of the match. The openers jointly have hammered twenty-five 4s and four 6s.Â
Seems like Shikhar Dhawan playing the test match like T20 cricket. Dhawan gets a 100 off 87 balls. He becomes 6th  batsman to get a 100 before lunch in Day 1.Â
The Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay have successfully managed to get past the first couple of hours of the match. Both have brought in 100 runs for the team. It's turning out to be an interesting day for both the sides.Â
So far the Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay are looking to building a rock solid partnership. Afghanistan bowlers as off now have not been able to take much of an advantage of the turn in the deck.Â
So there's a lot of movement in the pitch as Yamin Ahmadzai to bowl the first over. India could get only 2 runs off the over. Three slips and a gully set for the opening pair Murli Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan.Â
Itâs a historic Test as Afghanistan make their debut in the longer format of the game. Bengaluruâs M.Chinnaswamy Stadium will be witness to this piece of history. Afghanistan along with Ireland were handed the Test status last year and had to wait for a considerable to play their first game in whites. Ireland last month made its Test debut against Pakistan. Ireland lost that match, nonetheless showed that they can level up their game in the Test cricket. The focus now shifts to Afghanistan as they face-off number one ranked Test side-India. Home side India will be without the services of regular captain Virat Kohli. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side. The Indian Test squad sees the return of wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who if selected will be playing his first Test since 2010. Lokesh Rahul and Karun Nair are also part of the squad.
On the other hand, in the Afghanistan camp, the focus will be on spinners. Rashid Khan, no doubt, leads the pack. 17-year-old Mujeeb Ur Rahman also will be the centre of attraction. The Afghanistan squad features five spinners. So the team think-tank will have a variety to pick from. Rashid and Mujeeb will be the first choice. Afghanistan could well go with three to four frontline spinners in the playing XI including all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. IND vs AFG Test Match Live Score.
