After Pakistan’s impressive victory over New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Pakistan’s President Imran Khan congratulated the team for their triumph over Kiwis. Khan applauded Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Hari Sohail for their brilliant performances and tweeted, “Congratulations to our cricket team for a great comeback. Congratulations especially go to Babar, Haris and Shaheen for their brilliant performances”. Khan, a former Pakistan cricketer, was the skipper of the Pakistan national cricket team when they lifted the 1992 Cricket World Cup trophy. Pakistan was on the verge of going out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 league after their loss to India but came back strongly after defeating South Africa and New Zealand in the tournament. Against New Zealand, the 2017 Champions Trophy winners were on a rocking form, dominating the Blackcaps from the start of the match.

Restricting New Zealand to 237-6 in 50 overs, Babar Azam smashed a century to clinch the victory for Pakistan by seven wickets. The right-handed batsman’s partnership of 126 runs with Haris Sohail was the key reason behind Pakistan’s comfortable victory. Pakistan will now play against Afghanistan and Bangladesh on June 29 and July 5 respectively. The Asian cricket team hold the 6th position on the points table with seven points in seven matches, following Bangladesh which is on the 5th spot with an equal number of points. Along with Bangladesh, Pakistan gives a strong competition to England to grab the fourth position on the points table and book a semi-final berth in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
