ICC Women’s World T20 2018: Here’s How India Made It to the Semifinal of the Tournament
Having finished on top of Group B, India will face the second-placed team of Group A in the semis, which is England.
After finishing unbeaten in the group stage, India qualified for the semifinal of ICC Women’s World T20 2018. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side was placed in Group B along with Australia, rivals Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland. India displayed compressive performances throughout the group stage to advance to the last four of the tournament. This is only the third time that India have qualified for the semis of Women’s World T20. Interestingly, India have never qualified for the finals of the tournament and will be looking to book a place in the last two for the first time. Having finished on top of Group B, India will face the second-placed team of Group A in the semis, which is England. The semi-final takes place on November 23 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. Interestingly, this will be India’s first match of the tournament outside Guyana.
The Indian team will now be eager to make it to the final of another ICC event. Last year, India finished runner-up in the 50-over World Cup in England after losing to the home side in the final. India Women vs New Zealand Women:
India opened their World T20 campaign with an impressive win over White Ferns. Batting first, India mammoth 194, thanks to skipper Harmanpreet’s century. She apparently became the first women’s cricketer from India to score a T20I century. In response to India’s 194, New Zealand were restricted to 160 for nine and thus India won the match by 34 runs. India Women vs Pakistan Women:
In their second match, India faced traditional-rivals Pakistan. India once again displayed a clinical performance and sealed the game with seven wickets. After restricting Pakistan to 133, India chased the target with an over to spare. Mithali Raj was the architect of India’s chase, scoring 56 off 47 balls.
India Women vs Ireland Women:
Against Ireland, India completed the hat-trick of wins in the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 2018. Setting Ireland a target of 146 runs to win, India restricted them to just 93 runs with Radha Yadav scalping three wickets. After this win, India sealed their place in the semifinals. India Women vs Australia Women:
Having confirmed their place in the last four, India were up against three-time champions Australia in their last group stage fixture. In an important ahead of the semis, India displayed sublime performance to finish unbeaten in the group stage. Australia were bundled for 119 while chasing 168. It was Smriti Mandhana’s 55-ball 83 that helped India post a decent total. With four wins out of as many matches, India finished as group leader.
