Yesterday at the Lord’s India lost the second test match against England comprehensively by an inning and 159 runs. With this, there is a massive shift at the ICC Test rankings table. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli who went past Steve Smith on ICC test ranking charts has slipped down to number 2 due to a poor show put up against England.  Last week, the Indian captain became the first batsman to be number one after Sachin Tendulkar. His scores 23 and 17 in the two innings actually cost him dearly with 15 points. Which means the Australian batsman is once again placed on number one despite being out of action due to the sandpaper gate.

Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik’s rankings dropped massively. Vijay slipped eight places below and is now on number 33. Whereas the wicket-keeper batsman who scored a single run across both innings at Lords’ fell 18 places below. Kuldeep Yadav fell by 13 places to No.70. However, the ICC Test rankings have good news for Ravichandran Ashwin who jumped 10 places up and is now placed on number 57 in the batting charts. He is ranked number 3 amongst the all-rounders. Hardik Pandya also jumped 18 places in the all-rounders’ charts and is now ranked No.44.

On one hand, where the Indians lost big time at the ICC Test ranking charts, England’s Chris Woakes and James Anderson have every reason to celebrate. Chris Woakes jumped the ICC rankings massively in all the departments. It was his maiden century and a wicket of Virat Kohli that helped him improve his rankings. He rose 34 places in the rankings for batsmen and now is placed on 50 with the career-high points of 496, rising three places in the bowling department, Waokes is now on number 32.

James Anderson who claimed 9 wickets at the Lord’s fetched him 19 points and helped him break the 900 point barrier. He became the England bowler to do so since Ian Botham in 1980. The official account of ICC shared the news about the same.” @jimmy9 becomes the first England bowler since @BeefyBotham in 1980 to pass 900 points in the @MRFWorldwide ICC Test Bowling Rankings! 💪,” read the tweet.

After the match, Virat Kohli said, “Not proud of the way we've played. First time in the last five Tests that we've been outplayed. We deserved to lose this game, the way we went about things. Can't really think about conditions when you're playing the game. You can't sit and crib about these things. Sometimes the rub of the green won't go your way. Even when the ball's doing a bit, you have to pitch it in the right areas. Their guys were relentless, they made us work for the runs. [Extra seamer] Yeah looking back, I thought we got the combination wrong.”
