England all-rounder Ben Stokes took an absolute blinder of a catch to dismiss Andile Phehlukwayo off the bowling of Adil Rashid. The catch by Stokes was so spectacular that the commentators have already termed it as the catch of the tournament, even as this was the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Phehlukwayo, played a slog sweep off Adil Rashid's first delivery off the first ball of 35th over. Stokes, fielding between the deep point and deep backward point, got in the position, jumped and pulled up a one handed catch that stunned everyone watching. The crowd gave a thunderous applause for the catch.
West Indies's Sheldon Cottrell had taken a splendid catch off the bowling of Oshane Thomas to dismiss Steve Smith in the match against Australia. Steve Smith went on his backfoot and flicked one towards the backward square. It looked as if the ball would go for a six. However, Cottrell came running in, caught the ball by his left hand, threw it up in the air when he realised that he was crossing the boundary line. Cottrell jumped from the boundary line and caught the ball to complete the catch.
