Jimmy Neesham hit the final nail in India’s coffin as New Zealand progressed to their second consecutive World Cup final after beating the pre-tournament favourites in a thrilling semi-final clash of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The New Zealand all-rounder later took to social media to tweet out to the Indian cricketing fans requesting them to sell their tickets for CWC 2019 final for its original price to other interested fans, if they themselves weren’t attending the game. Neesham took the final wicket of Yuzvendra Chahal in India vs New Zealand semi-final game to send the BlackCaps to their only final appearance in World Cups history. The 28-year-old in his earnest request to the Indian cricket fans, who he believes had already purchased the tickets for the final, asked them to kindly resell their tickets to other fans if possible. He also requested the fans to not sell their tickets for extra-profits but sell it for its original price. Re-selling tickets for its double price is nothing new in sports and has been haunting the game since times immemorable. Fans, who have brought the tickets in advance, usually hike the price seeking extra profits by selling it to fans, whose teams will be playing. It is usually after their teams have been knocked out of a tournament, do fans try and resell their tickets for its double price to other interested fans.
In a similar case, fans of the Indian cricket teams had already purchased the tickets for the final at Lord's especially after India topped the league phase standings and were among the favourites to play the final. But as it turned out, India were knocked out of the semis by an impressive New Zealand, who made sealed the final berth, with an 18-run victory.
New Zealand, then led by Brendon were beaten by co-hosts Australia in the final of the 2015 World Cup final. They will be hoping to clinch cricket’s ‘Holy Grail’ this time around when face hosts England in the CWC 2019 final. Both New Zealand and England are chasing their maiden World Cup title with England ending as runner-up three times in the past.
