Harmanpreet Kaur Loses DSP Rank Over Fake Degree Row, Indian Women T20 Captain Can Only Retain a 'Constable Post' in Punjab Police
Harmanpreet Kaur was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police four months ago. She is also an Arjuna award winner.
Chandigarh, July 10: Indian Women's T20I captain and star cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, who got in trouble recently after Punjab police found her educational degrees to be 'fake', faces embarrassment as the Punjab government has demoted the cricketer from DSP to constable rank over the fake degree row. Harmanpreet Kaur was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police four months ago. She is also an Arjuna award winner.
Harmanpreet is a native of Moga in Punjab, and according to media reports, the police has said that her testimonials are not true and correct. The police department is also reported to have sent a proposal to the Home department in which the police has said that the cricketer cannot continue as DSP because her graduation degrees are fake. The Home Department is headed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh.
The DGP (Administration) of Punjab, MK Tiwari, was quoted by the Times of India saying that Harmanpreet had produced the graduation degree conferred on her by Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut. However, on investigation, it was proven to be bogus.
The decision by Punjab government to demote the cricketer's rank in the fake degree row is bound to create embarrassment for the Indian Women T20I captain. But the Punjab police had said earlier that she can claim the rank again if she clears her educational qualifications.
