With her historical hundred in the opening match of Women’s World T20, Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian woman to score a ton in the T20I format. It was an extraordinary century for the young cricketer given the fact that she was battling stomach cramps en route her match-winning knock.
Harmanpreet Kaur also broke a slew of records during their match against New Zealand. Not only she became the first Indian woman to score a century in Women’s T20 World Cup, but Harmanpreet also bettered her record of being the highest Indian scorer, when she had scored 77 runs off 59 balls against Bangladesh in WT20 in 2014.
Before her hundred, on Friday, the record was held by Mithali Raj, when she had remained unbeaten on 97* runs against Malaysia this year. In her 51-ball knock, Harmanpreet hit 7 fours and 8 sixes.
Her tally of 8 sixes in an innings is the second highest number of sixes hit in woman’s cricket. The record is held by West Indies’ Deandra Dottin who has 9 sixes in a match against South Africa in 2010.
