The ICC World Playing XI against West Indies will feature a couple of names from India. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik’s names are included in the ICC World Playing XI for the charity T20 match to be played at the Lord’s in England on May 31, 2018. BCCI Acting Secretary, Amitabh Chaudhury announced the news.
He said, “Hardik and Dinesh will be part of the World XI team for the charity match.” Rashid Khan who currently plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, will also be a part of the squad. The other names include Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera. Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik from Pakistan will also be a part of the playing XI. England's Eoin Morgan will be leading the World XI side.
“I am delighted to captain the ICC World XI at Lord’s in May against the West Indies. The cricket family always comes together to support worthwhile causes and this one-off T20I, featuring some of the best players in the world will be a great spectacle at the Home of Cricket,” said Morgan.
“I am sure the sporting public will come out in force and help raise money and awareness towards restoring parts of the Caribbean hit by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September last year, which ripped through many communities in this beautiful part of the world," he further added.
The funds raised from the match will be donated towards renovating 5 venues including Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten. These cricket grounds were damaged last year after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
