Malinga made his international debut with a Test match against Australia on July 1, 2004. In July 2004, he also made his ODI debut for Sri Lanka in a match against UAE. He recently retired from ODI cricket after a match against Bangladesh on July 23, 2019. In April 2011, Malinga had brought down the curtains on his Test career. He is the only player to take three hat-tricks in ODIs and two hat-tricks in World Cup tournaments.
Malinga played 30 Test matches, taking 101 wickets. In his ODI career, the death over specialist took 338 wickets in 226 matches. His best figures in ODI is 6/38.
