Indian pacer Jaydev Unadktat celebrates his 28th birthday on Friday. Born on October 18, 1991, Unadkat is a left-arm pacer who is a popular name in the Indian domestic circuit. Hailing from Porbandar, Gujarat, Unadkat showed some great promise in his early days and rose through ranks very swiftly. In the Under-19 World Cup in 2010, the left-arm seamer scalped seven wickets from four matches and grabbed everyone's attention. In the same year, the bowler was selected in the Indian team for South Africa and his international debut in the first Test of the series. 4/41 Against Zimbabwe in Harare
After a great domestic season, Unadkat was drafted into the national team in India's 2013 Tour of Zimbabwe. In the second ODI of series, the pacer put up a clinical performance and took a four-wicket haul. Defending 295 in the second innings, Unadkat clinched wickets at regular intervals and the never let the opposition to settle down. As a result, Zimbabwe could manage only 236 runs and lost the match by 58 runs.
2/15 Against Sri Lanka in Mumbai
The left-arm pacer produced a clinical bowling performance in the 3rd T20I of Sri Lanka's 2017 Tour of India. Bowling first, Unadkat made ideal use of the new ball and dismissed both the openers in quick succession. The pacer bowled a tight line and length and restricted the run-flow. Eventually, Sri Lanka registered mere 135 runs in the first innings which the Indians chased down easily with five wickets in hand.
5/25 Against Delhi Daredevils in Delhi
On a pitch where other bowlers were facing the hammering, Unadkat bowled an impeccable spell and bagged a five-fer, Playing for Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) in IPL 2013, Unadkat was against the prominent Delhi-batting line-up and the youngster delivered in style. RCB posted 183 in the first innings and the pitch seemed batting-friendly. However, Unadkat had some other ideas and he dismissed five batsmen. 5/30 Against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad
Unadkat was at his prime in the IPL 2017. Playing for Rising Pune Supergiant, the left-arm seamer bowled brilliantly and tormented the batsman throughout the season. However, the speedster’s best performance came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Defending a small total of 148 runs, Unadkat took a five-wicket haul which also included a hat-trick maiden in the last over. SRH only could muster 136 runs in the second innings and lost the match by 12 runs.
2/12 Against Kings XI Punjab in Pune
Another Unadkat’s brilliance came against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL 2017. Bowling first, the left-arm quick bowled an excellent spell which proved to be too good for the Punjab batting line-up. Unadkat just didn’t take two wickets but also bowled an economical spell. The bowler just gave 12 runs in his four overs and KXIP were bundled out for just 73 runs in the first innings. The chase proved to a cakewalk for the Pune batsman as they registered a nine-wicket victory.
Jaydev Unadkat is around the Indian team for a while and has a fair amount of experience at the highest level. However, due to some injuries and dip in form, the Saurashtra-born was never able to cement his spot in the side. Nevertheless, the pacer will aim to put on a substantial performance in IPL 2020 and secure a berth in India’s squad for ICC World T20 2020.
