Global T20 Canada League announced during Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Visit to India
With the announcement of Global T20 Canada, the country becomes the first ICC Associate nation to host a premier T20 league!
It comes as good news for Cricket fans as the sport will now also be played in Canada. With International Cricket Council (ICC) sanctioning the Twenty20 (T20) tournament in Canada, it will be exciting for the fans to see a pool of international players take part in the league. The announcement to host ‘Global T20 Canada’ came on February 22, in New Delhi, when Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was paying a visit to the Indian capital.
Taking part in a promotional cricket event in Delhi, Canada PM Justin Trudeau wished for the success of Global T20 Canada event. Also, present at the event were former Indian cricketers – Mohammed Azharuddin and Kapil Dev. Look at Trudeau's and Azharuddin's tweet:
The penetration of the sport in the North American country speaks volume of the fact that the sport is now a major attraction in that region too. In August 2016, India and West Indies played a two-match T20 series in the United States which saw a sea of fans enjoying the live spectacle of the sport in their country.
The tournament is slated to begin in July, later this year. The T20 league will be organised and managed by Mercuri Group in association with Cricket Canada – the official governing body of cricket in the country. The T20 league will be played across three venues in Toronto. With the announcement of Global T20 Canada, the country becomes the first ICC Associate nation to host a premier T20 league!
