Gautam Gambhir is set to leave Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2024. The left-hander had joined the franchise ahead of their inaugural season, which was in 2022 and led the side to two playoffs in both their ways in the IPL. Earlier, the franchise confirmed the appointment of former chief selector MSK Prasad as chief strategist. Andy Flower had also parted ways with the franchise as head coach, who now have Justin Langer for the role.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, Gambhir is also on his way out of the franchise after Flower's departure. A source, quoted by the Hindi Daily, stated, "After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise." It has to be kept in mind that reports emerged a while ago of Gambhir returning to KKR ahead of the fresh season. Fans had also called for Gambhir to the KKR setup with placards at the Eden Gardens when the home side faced Lucknow Super Giants earlier this season.

Gambhir is a KKR legend by every sense of the word, having led the franchise to two titles in a span of four years 2012-14. KKR are yet to win the IPL since Gambhir last led them to the title in 2014. The Knights had hired domestic coaching great Chandrakant Pandit as head coach ahead of the 2023 season. Gambhir is currently in the US with New Jersey Triton's team for the inaugural edition of the US Masters T10.
