With Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on the horizon, Dainik Jagran has suggested in a report, that Gambhir's future depends on how India performs Down Under in the five-Test series against Australia. In case, the Indian national cricket team fails to win the series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could opt for a split coaching role, with Gambhir taking care of the white-ball setup, and current NCA president VVS Laxman overseeing the Test side.
Gambhir came in hot on the heels of an impressive mentoring stint with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), leading them to win the 2024 edition.
