The pacer snapped a couple of wickets in his first over and further dented the opponents. From a couple of overs, bowled by the 26-year-old, gave away seven runs and bowled at an economy of 3.50.

Needless to say that his performance sent the Internet into a tizzy and bagged praises from the netizens. This also included former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir who also slammed Chetan Chauhan and Bishan Singh Bedi and ridiculed them for writing Saini off even before he stepped on to the field. Posting the picture of Saini, Gambhir wrote, “Kudos Navdeep Saini on ur India debut. U already have 2 wkts even before u have bowled— @BishanBedi & @ChetanChauhanCr. Their middle stumps are gone seeing debut of a player whose cricketing obituary they wrote even before he stepped on the field, shame!!! @BCCI.” The former Indian cricketer is said to be an ardent follower of Gambhir and is said to have supported Saini in the worst of times. In fact on one of the occasions, Saini even cancelled going to South Africa to be a net bowler and opted to play domestic cricket.

Talking about the game, the Windes has lost seven wickets and are yet to reach the score of 100 runs. The bowlers have done a commendable job for India. Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja snapped a wicket each.
