After India’s exit from CWC 2019, there have been a lot of rumours about MS Dhoni retiring from international cricket. While there are rumours that the former Indian captain might soon hang up his boots, Gautam Gambhir has urged the selectors to groom young talents. While speaking about Dhoni’s retirement, Gautam said that back then in 2012, Dhoni himself had taken a few tough steps and had decided that he (Gautam Gambhir), Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag cannot play together in the CB series which was hosted in Australia. Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir Slam ICC Rules After England Defeat New Zealand in ICC CWC 2019 Final Over Boundary Count.

All this was done to promote young talent and he invested in future. According to Gambhir, Dhoni made a practical decision back then “I remember Dhoni saying in Australia that me, Sachin and Sehwag can't play the CB series [in Australia] together as the grounds were big. He thought young players were needed for the next World Cup. It's necessary to take practical decisions than being emotional," Gautam Gambhir told TV9 Bharatvarsh.

He also mentioned that it is important to give enough chances to younger talents like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant so that at least one of these can get ready for the upcoming World Cup. He also disagreed with the fact that Dhoni hanging up his boots, could create a void that cannot be filled. According to Gambhir India has enough talent to fill in Dhoni’s shoes.
