Gautam Gambhir Appointed as Delhi Daredevils Captain: Will New Skipper Change Fortunes for DD in IPL 2018?

Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the captain of Delhi Daredevils (DD) team ahead of the 11^th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Gambhir was purchased for Rs. 2.80 crores by the Delhi franchise at this year’s IPL Auction. It was a bit of surprise for the fans when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) didn’t make a bid to buy him this year. Gambhir, himself, has expressed his desire to finish with a stint at Delhi Daredevils, in the past.

Known for his impeccable captaincy skills, Gambhir led the KKR team to two IPL titles, in 2012 and 2014, during his seven-year stay at the franchise. It will be exciting to see Gambhir captain his home-city franchise this IPL season.

“I am more excited than I have ever been,” said Gautam Gambhir during the launch event of the Delhi Daredevils’ new team jersey. The CEO of the Delhi Daredevils franchise Hemant Dua said that he was happy to have Gambhir back as Delhi Daredevil’s captain. Confirming the news on his Twitter account, Dua said, “Happy to announce Gautam Gambhir as Delhi Daredevils captain for 2018 and beyond. Gambhir began his IPL stint at Delhi only, before KKR purchased the aggressive left-handed batsman in 2011 IPL auction. The Delhi team has often found themselves in the bottom half of the Points Table in the IPL since its inception. With Gambhir back in the side, and now appointed as the captain, it will be interesting to see if he is able to change fortunes for the Delhi Daredevils team. The 2018 IPL begins on April 7 and the final is scheduled to be played on May 31. Will Gambhir be able to lead his side to play the IPL Final this year?
