Robin Morris, a former first-class cricketer who represented Mumbai and Odisha in the domestic circuit, was arrested by Versova police for his involvement in running an alleged betting racket on Indian Premier League 2020 matches. The 54-year-old along with two other accused were detained by police for taking bets in IPL 2020 games, which is currently being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). IPL 2020 Betting Racket Busted in Bengaluru, 2 Arrested; Recovered Rs 10.05 Lakh.

The former cricketer played 42 first-class games and 51-list A matches for Mumbai and Odisha between 1995 and 2007. The police stated that they had received a tip about betting activities in Morris’ house in Versova at Yari Road, Andheri (West), following which they launched a raid at the location. IPL 2020 Betting Racket Busted; 5 Bookies Arrested by Delhi Police from Budh Vihar, Laptop and 10 Mobile Phones Recovered.

'Morris was involved in taking bets on an IPL match,' said an officer. Police seized several mobile phones, two tablet gadgets, and cash worth Rs 9,000 from the flat and booked the trio under the provision of the IPC Gambling Act and will be in police custody until presented in the Magistrate court on Monday. They were detained for reportedly betting on a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

This is not the first time Robin Morris has been accused of betting on cricket matches. The former cricketer was alleged by the International Cricket Council for being involved as the match-fixer during Sri Lanka's home Test series against both Australia in 2016 and against India in 2017. In December 2019, Morris along with four other people were arrested with regards to an alleged kidnapping.
