Mumbai, September 30: Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis continued his historic run in Test cricket against New Zealand in second Test. scoring his fifth Test century in eight Tests and becoming second fastest player to reach 1,000 Test runs. Let us look at fastest players to have reached this milestone in Tests. Herbert Sutcliffe (England) and Everton Weekes (West Indies)

Sutcliffe reached this milestone in his 9th Test and 12th inning against Australia in February 1925, while Weekes reached this milestone in his 12th inning during his ninth Test against India in February 1949. Pictured is Sutcliffe, who scored 4,555 runs in 54 Tests at an average of 60.73, with 16 centuries.

Don Bradman (Australia), Kamindu Mendis (SL) and Neil Harvey (AUS)

Bradman reached the 1,000 run mark in his seventh Test against England in July 1930, in his 13th inning. Kamindu reached the milestone against New Zealand yesterday, in his eighth Test and 13th innings. Harvey raced to the milestone in his 10th Test and 14th inning against England in December 1950. Len Hutton (England), Frank Worrell, LG Rowe (West Indies), Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

Hutton reached the milestone against West Indies in June 1939 during his 11th Test and 16th inning. Worrell reached here against Australia in December 1951 during his 10th Test and 16th inning. Jaiswal reached this landmark during March 2024 against England in his 9th Test and 16th innings, while Lowe registered this milestone against England in March 1974 in his 12th Test and 16th inning.

George Headley (West Indies), Sid Barnes (Australia), Graeme Smith (South Africa), Gary Ballance and Harry Brook (England)

All of these aforementioned batters reached the 100th run mark in 17 innings. While Headley reached this mark during his ninth Test against Australia in Feb 1931, Barnes reached this mark against England in June 1948 in his 11th Test. Smith raced to this mark against England in July 2003 in his 12th Test. These all aforementioned players reached the 1,000 run landmark in 18 innings. Australia's Mark Taylor and South Africa's Markram were the quickest to reach here, in 10 Tests. Pujara reached the mark in 11th Test. Also, Australia's Marnus Labuschagne reached this milestone in his 12th Test.
