He and some other players were tested for anti-doping testing program by BCCI during a Syed Ali Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on February 22, 2019, in Indore. BCCI informed about the decision of Prithvi Shaw’s ban through an official notification. Akshay Dullarwar of Vidarbha Ranji Team and Divya Gajraj of Rajasthan Ranji Team were the other players suspended for violating BCCI's anti-doping policy.
Shaw’s suspension period is in effect from March 16 to November 15, 2019. As a result, he will not be part of Bangladesh tour of India and South Africa’s tour of India.
