Fakhar Zaman Hits Double Century, Remains Unbeaten on 210 Against Zimbabwe: First Pakistani to Reach The Milestone in ODIs

Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani in cricket history to score a double century in an ODI. The previous best score by a Pakistani in an inning was held by Saeed Anwar who had scored 194 runs, in the year 1997.

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman scored a scintillating double century, on Friday, in the 4th One Day International (ODI) match against Zimbabwe, which is played at Queen Sports Park, in Bulawayo. The left-arm batsman became the first Pakistani player in cricket history to score a double century in ODI cricket. The previous best score by a Pakistan player in an inning was held by Saeed Anwar who had scored 194 runs, in the year 1997.

Fakhar Zaman breached the 200-run mark in only 153 balls. The 28-year-old batsman hit 24 Fours and 5 Sixes in his to reach his double-century, in his explosive innings. The record for highest ODI score is held by India's Rohit Sharma, who scored 264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014.

Earlier in the match, Zaman along with his opening-partner Imam-ul-Haq stitched a record partnership for the opening wicket. The duo scored 304 runs for the first wicket in only 42 overs, after which Imam-ul-Haq was caught out.

The record partnership saw the Pakistan openers surpass the previous record set by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Upal Tharanga against England at Headingley, in Leeds, in the year 2006. The previous record for highest runs in an opening partnership was of 286 runs.

The Pakistan team ended the first innings of the match with the total of 399/1 on the scoreboard. Zaman was unbeaten on 210 runs, after a ravishing double-century. Asif Ali who joined forces with Zaman after Imam’s wicket scored 50 runs in only 22 balls, which saw the target balloon to 399 eventually.
