Fakhar Zaman Becomes Fastest Batsman to Score 1000 ODI Runs, Reaches Landmark in 18 Innings
During the fourth ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, the 28-year-old opener became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double hundred.
Pakistan cricket team opener Fakhar Zaman has once again etched his name in the record books following his maiden double century against Zimbabwe a few days back. The left-handed batsman has now become the fastest to reach 1000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Fakhar has now gone past Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Quinton de Kock and teammate Babar Azam to reach the milestone. While rest achieved the feat in 21 innings, it took Fakhar just 18 innings to match them.
At the start of the fifth and final ODI against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Fakhar needed 20 more runs to reach the landmark of 1000 ODI runs. During the fourth ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, the 28-year-old opener became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double hundred. In doing so, he bettered the former opener Saeed Anwar’s long-standing record of 194 runs. It was also the eighth overall double century in ODIs after Rohit Sharma (thrice), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill.
Fakhar has been in good form during the ongoing series in Zimbabwe. And it is evident by his scores of 60, 117*, 43* and 210* in the first four ODIs. Meanwhile, at the time of writing this report, Fakhar was nearing his yet another half-century.
