Ex-Australia Cricketer Michael Slater to Remain in Jail Over Domestic Violence Charges After His Bail Plea Gets Rejected by Brisbane Supreme Court

Former Australia cricketer Michael Slater is set to remain in jail after his bail plea was rejected by the Brisbane Supreme Court. The ex-cricketer turned TV commentator, earlier this year, was taken into custody after he was slapped with 25 charges, which include assault, stalking and choking, among others. Slater was reportedly involved in an argument with a woman who had come to his house to return a dog. He also reportedly stalked the woman, sending her several messages which were abusive in nature. Later on, Slater was arrested after she received a security notification on her phone which showed him attempting to break into her house. These incidents were said to have happened between December 2023 and earlier this year, leading to the ex-cricketer's arrest. The 54-year-old's plea for bail was already denied earlier this year and the former cricketer has been in custody since then. Greg McGuire, Slater's lawyer, suggested a plan to release the latter, fearing that his client would spend 'too much time in custody' before the case is completed. McGuire proposed that if the bail was granted, Slater would be heading off to a rehabilitation centre in Sydney, after which he would stay with his sister in New South Wales. A report in ABC News also states that Slater's case would be heard in the court again in September. Slater featured in 74 Tests and 42 ODIs for Australia where he scored 5312 and 987 runs respectively. Earlier this year, he had collapsed in court after his plea for bail was rejected.
