WWE took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to express grief on Gene Okerlund’s death. WWE wrote, WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognisable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76.

Paul Levesque, popularly known as Triple H, rather penned an emotional message on Gene Okerlund’s demise. Triple H wrote, “A voice and soundtrack to an entire era of our industry. He was the star of some of @WWE’s most memorable segments. “Mean Gene” was beloved by all who got to work with him. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Gene Okerlund was born in 1942. Okerlund is known for his work for World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during the 80s and early 90s. He was signed to a lifetime contract by WWE later and continued to work in several promotional programs on WWE Network.
