Hosts England outmuscled Bangladesh in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC 2019) match at Cardiff. Set a target of mammoth 387 to win, Despite Shakib Al Hasan’s century, Bangladesh were bowled out for 280 in 48.5 overs. It was Jason Roy’s scintillating century that handed England an early advantage after Bangladesh put them to bat first. Roy and Jonny Bairstow added 128 runs for the first wicket and never allowed Bangladesh to get back in the contest. Bairstow scored 51 runs before being sent back by Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza.

England then lost a few more wickets but it was Roy who kept scoring at a healthy pace. Roy’s attacking knock helped England march on towards a big total. Jos Buttler, who has been in amazing form, also chipped in with 64 off 44 balls. Bangladesh in response got off to a poor start and lost Soumya Sarkar early to a superb Jofra Archer delivery. Tamim Iqbal tried to hang on but all in vain as Mark Wood had him caught. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then saved some pride with a 106-run stand for the third wicket.

After Rahim’s dismissal, Bangladesh lost their way further but Shakib kept one end intact with his brilliant batting. The left-hander slammed his career’s eighth ODI century before being dismissed on 121 off 119 balls.
