England won the first Test match against India at Edgbaston, in Birmingham, on Saturday. The 31-run victory saw England take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. The second Test match is set to be played at the historic Lord’s stadium, for which the England team have announced a couple of changes in the team’s composition.
In their 13-man squad for the second Test match against India, the England team management has called Ollie Pope and Chris Woakes, who will replace Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes respectively.
England’s 13-man Squad for Lord’s Test: Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Sam Curran, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Jamie Porter, Adil Rashid, and Chris Woakes.
Ollie Pope, the 20-year-old middle-order batsman, has been in form for his county team (Surrey), who is leading the County Championship Division One, this season. The right-handed batsman, Pope, has scored heavily in the County matches and has scored 684 runs at an average of 85.50. And not to forget, the young batsman has scored three centuries.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes scored 27 runs in both the innings, while he took six wickets in the match. His six-wickets included a match-winning spell of 14.2-2-40-4 in the second innings. Stokes, however, hasn’t been dropped for the lack in his batting form.
The all-rounder was involved in an ugly brawl outside a club, earlier this year, and hence it will be because of a court hearing to be held this week, that Stokes will have to sit-out of the Test match.
On the other hand, skipper Virat Kohli would also be considering to draft Cheteshwar Pujara in the playing XI. The selection dilemmas for both the teams continue as India and England will lock horns in the second Test match, which is scheduled to begin at August 9.
