The rivalry between England and Australian players is as heated as the surface of the sun. However, their players also share great camaraderie off the field, which was displayed when former Australia pacer Merv Hughes saved England legend Ian Botham from drowning in crocodile-infested waters during the latter's fishing trip in Australia. Botham, who is currently visiting Australia's Northern Territory, found himself in the river after his flip-flops tangled with the rope on the board while attempting to cross from one boat to another, where Hughes came as a lifesaver.
The duo are on a four-day fishing trip, where the incident took place on the Moyle River. As reported by The Guardian, Botham, 68, suffered heavy bruising on his torso but largely remained unharmed thanks to quick action from Hughes, aged 62, and others on the boat.
The Moyle River is known for being heavily infested by crocodiles and bull sharks, which makes fishing in the water body highly dangerous but is famous for Barramundi.
