Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik was heavily trolled for visiting the All England Tennis Club to watch the Wimbledon 2019 semi-final clash between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The wicket-keeper batsman appeared at the Centre Court to watch the men’s singles semi-final clash and even gave an interview to the organisers. But it did not go down well with the fans, who hit back at the cricketer for going to SW19 just two days after India’s heart-breaking semi-final defeat to NZ in CWC 2019. India were knocked out of CWC 2019 after losing to New Zealand by 18-runs in a tensely-contested semi-final battle. The men in blue were on top when rain intervened and forced the game to be postponed to the next day. New Zealand’s innings eventually finished on 239 but India were unable to chase it down. Most of India’s batting order, including Karthik, failed to reach double-digit. The defeat in the final-four stage, despite India topping the standings in the league phase, disappointed the Indian fans, who were hopeful that India will lift their third World Cup title. Therefore, when fans saw Karthik appear at Wimbledon 2019, they were miffed with the wicketkeeper-batsman and trolled him heavily.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team were unable to leave England despite their elimination from CWC 2019 as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) couldn't arrange the tickets on an emergency basis. Their ouster from CWC 2019 came as a shock to many cricketing fans as they expected Indian to at least reach the final.
But New Zealand, despite being written off at the end of their innings, made it to the final courtesy some superior bowling which helped them restrict India to 221 runs in 50 overs. Ravindra Jadeja top-scored for India with a valiant 77 off 59 deliveries, while MS Dhoni also made a half-century. For New Zealand, Matt Henry and Trent Boult starred with the ball.
